2023.5.1 [Peer-reviewed paper (co-author)] 岡澤由季さん・樋野先生・浅見先生との査読付き共著論文が日本建築学会計画系論文集に掲載されました.
博士学生の岡澤由季さんが進められてきた査読つき論文「太陽光発電に転用される農地の社会経済的特徴：千葉県における農地の変化に着目して」（自分、樋野先生、浅見先生共著）が日本建築学会計画系論文集/88 巻 (2023) 807 号に掲載されました。農地の太陽光発電への転用が散見される中、果たして太陽光発電施設は営農ポテンシャルのある土地とバッティングしてしまっているのか？という問いを出発点として、岡澤さんの目視による膨大な分析が行われました。結果の１つとして、農振白地地域においては、人口密度が低い、65 歳以上農業就業人口割合が高い、傾斜が大きい、日射量が少ない地域の筆である傾向が見られ、農業の維持が難しい農地を中心に太陽光発電に転用されていたことが示唆されました。この結果は農振白地地域であっても、農業に不適な地域は農業の担い手不足や作業負荷の高さから太陽光発電に転用され、耕作放棄地になることを回避しているのではという新たな知見を得られました。本研究は解析研着任後初めての共著論文となり、大変学びある研究となりました。岡澤さん、おめでとうございます！
Title: Socioeconomic Characteristics of Agricultural Lands Converted to Photovoltaic Power Plants: Focusing on Changes in Farmland in Chiba Prefecture

Abstract: The study aimed at revealing the socioeconomic characteristics of agricultural lands converted into photovoltaic power plants (PVPPs). We hypothesized that PVPPs installed in agricultural lands with low population density and aging farmers population, PVPPs were installed in low-efficiency agricultural lands after the FIT Act revision in 2017 or Agricultural Promotion Regions without designated zoning of Exclusively Agricultural Area. The results of two logistic regression analysis in 25,702 PVPPs and 3,606 farmlands showed that PVPPs were likely to be converted from agricultural lands with less population density, not only high-efficient but also low-efficient after 2017, and lower efficient in the regions.

2023.4.1 [Research Grant] 2023年度（公財）鹿島学術振興財団の一般研究助成に採択されました【障がい者の包摂 x 農園】.
研究代表として応募した横張真先生・雨宮護先生・樋野公宏先生との共同研究（課題名「包摂都市の形成に向けた知的障がい・精神障がい者の自己成長を促すコミュニティ・ガーデンの運営・空間的特徴の解明」）が、2023年度の（公財）鹿島学術振興財団の一般研究助成に採択されました。２年の研究プロジェクトとして、関東地方を中心に農福連携を実施している農園の事例調査を広範囲で進めていく予定です。特に、実際に仕事場がどのようなチーム編成によって管理されており、個々の自己成長感と結びついているのか、そして地域とのつながりなどについて調査を実施していきます！申請にあたり多くのご助言をいただいた先生方・ラボメンバーに感謝申し上げます。
I am pleased to announce that our point research project titled "Operational and Spatial Characteristics of Community Gardens to Promote Self-Growth of People with Intellectual and Mental Disabilities for the Formation of Inclusive Cities" with Dr. Makoto Yokozari, Dr. Mamoru Amamiya, and Dr. Kimihiro Hino has been selected for a general research grant from the Kajima Science Foundation for FY2023. As a two-year research project, we plan to conduct an extensive case study of farms in the Kanto region engaging in the collaboration between agriculture and welfare (noufuku renkei). In particular, we will investigate how workplaces are managed through team organization, how this is linked to the individual's sense of personal growth, and how this is connected to the local community. We would like to thank the professors and lab members who provided much advice in the application process!
2023.3.27-4.2 [Princeton University exchange WS & NY site visits] プリンストン大学にて3研究室共同WS・ニューヨーク市のまちづくり拠点の視察を行いました.
東京大学によるプリンストン大学との戦略的パートナーシップの一環として、今回３つの研究室（解析研・情報学環渡邉研・筧研）の教員・学生が集まり、アメリカ・ニュージャージー州に位置するプリンストン大学にてそれぞれの分野を紹介する交流ワークショップを行いました。
渡邉英徳先生による「Data Visualization」と題するレクチャーでは、Re:Earthを用いたデジタルアーカイブ研究の紹介からプリンストン大の学生とのグループディスカッションが行われました。
自分がファシリテーターを担当した「Comparing Cities」では、東京とマンハッタンを①交通システム②防犯システム③緑地空間の３側面から比較してもらうWSを行いました。A0サイズの地図を並べてもらい、実際に駅や公園、交番などを書き込んでもらいながら２都市間の違いと共通点を探ってもらいました。
また、マテリアル・エクスペリエンス・デザインがご専門の筧康明先生による「data physicalization」レクチャーでは、３Dプリンタ―を用いて、五感を用いたデータ・情報の表現について学びました。現地の先生方とも交流する機会となり、大変貴重な学びがありました。現地のコーディネーターを担っていただいたMichiko Tsunedaさん、本当にありがとうございました！
WS後は、ニューヨーク市マンハッタンに滞在し、まちづくり拠点を視察しました。現地の建築家である山田カズヤさんのガイドのもと、ニューヨーク市の都市計画の歴史が学べるMuseum of the City of New York、ハドソンリバーパークの一部であるLittle Island、未利用工業地区を再生したHunter's Point South Parkなどを視察しました（山田さん、ありがとうございました！）また、NYのフードシステム研究の第一人者であるProf. Nevin Cohen先生にもお会いすることができ、最近のプロジェクトについても教えていただきました。
We visited Princeton University with researchers and students from three labs (Prof. Hidenori Watanabe's lab, Prof. Yasuaki Kakehi's lab, and our Urban Analysis lab) as part of the Princeton-University of Tokyo Strategic Partnership. It was my very first time visiting Princeton, and we were welcomed by very engaging students and faculties. Each lab gave a lecture about their research topics: Prof. Watanabe's lab gave a talk about "data visualization" using their platform Re:Earth. Prof. Kakehi's lab gave us 3D printing demonstration based on their topic of "data physicalization". In our session titled "Comparing Cities," we asked students from both universities to draw on maps of Tokyo and Manhattan to analyze the differences in scale, density, and social characteristics of the two. We would like to express our deepest gratitudes to all the faculties and Michiko Tsuneda who offered us great support during our trip!
After the workshop in Princeton, we had few days to stay in NY to see latest projects. I also had a chance to see my great friend from Baltimore too! Thanks to Mr. Kazuya Yamada, NY-based architect, we had a great tour around NY! Moreover, we had a chance to meet Prof. Nevin Cohen, a leading researcher in the field of urban food policy and the co-author of Beyond the Kale: Urban Agriculture and Social Justice Activism in New York City.
2023.3.14-21 [Integrated Study on Urban Agriculture as Heritage (INSUAH)] 都市農業遺産に関する国際共同研究：東京WSの通訳を行いました.
東京大学大学院 工学系研究科都市工学専攻の横張真先生・飯田晶子先生が進めておられる「都市農業遺産に関する国際共同研究（Integrated Study on Urban Agriculture as Heritage：INSUAH）」の国際WS＠東京が３月中旬～下旬にかけて開催され、現地の通訳として参加しました。WSにはドイツ、ブラジル、キューバ、インドネシアの研究者らが来日し、練馬区・国分寺市・八王子など、都内でも都市農業の歴史のある地域を訪れ、現地の農家さんとのディスカッションを行いました。
今回来日されたドイツのFrank Lohrberg先生は、2019年夏にドイツ・ハノーファーのUrban Agricultural Heritage – Herrenhausen Conferenceにてお会いしており、約４年ぶりの再会となりました。
練馬区の視察では、江戸東京野菜の研究・発信を長年牽引されてきた江戸東京・伝統野菜研究会の大竹道茂様をお迎えし、江戸東京野菜と市場との関係、特徴や農家さんの取組についてお話を伺うことができました（大竹様のブログはこちら）。
北米の都市農業事業について、これまで各地の事例を視察してきましたが、何百年もその土地を守ってきた歴史を持つ東京の農園は、それ自体に独自の文化的価値を有していることを改めて感じました。
The first international workshop for the Integrated Study on Urban Agriculture as Heritage: INSUAH was held in Tokyo, and I joined as an on-site interpreter. INSUAH is led by Dr. Makoto Yokohari and Dr. Akiko Iida. The research aims to conduct cross-national studies on urban agriculture heritage, including Germany, Indonesia, Cuba, and Brazil. During the workshop, we visited farmlands in Nerima, Kokubunji, and Hachiohji. I was pleased to meet Mr. Otake who is a prominent researcher of Edo Tokyo traditional vegetables. The workshop highlighted the cultural significance of urban agriculture practices in Tokyo.
2023.1.20 [Design Studio Final Presentation & Workshop] 自然環境デザインスタジオの最終講評＆住民ワークショップを埼玉県小川町で行いました.
2022年度後期は、東京大学大学院新領域創成科学研究科環境学研究系の「環境デザイン統合教育プログラム（IEDP）」の一環である「自然環境デザインスタジオ」（寺田徹先生ご担当の演習）にサポート教員としてかかわりました。
竹中工務店と共同で研究している埼玉県小川町を対象に、Representationという手法を用いて「ランドスケープの発想で小川町の魅力を表現する」作品を２チームが制作し、最終発表では地域の方々とのワークショップを実施しました。
１チームは人と人とのつながりに着目し、インタビューを受けた方々と思い出の場所とを１つのマップに落とし込んだCollective Memoryを作成、もう１チームは水をテーマに、川とはじめとした水と住民との関係が表出している要素を書き起こしました。
スタジオの進行にはランドスケープアーキテクトオフィス代表の吉田葵さん・坂巻直子さんが関わり、力強い作品が生まれました。
住民WSは竹中の石蔵コワーキングスペースNESToで開催し、大変盛り上がりました。
作品制作にあたりご協力いただきました小川町役場の皆様、住民の皆様に感謝申し上げます！
In the winter semester of 2022, I got involved as a supporting faculty in the Natural Environmental Design Studio, which is part of the Integrated Environmental Design Program (IEDP).
The studio took place in Ogawa town in Saitama Prefecture where we have been conducting fieldwork as the research project with Takenaka Corporation. The studio asked students to incorporate the 'representation' method to express the local identities of Ogawa during fieldwork. The final presentation took place on Jan 20th coupled with co-design workshops with local residents.
Team 1 focused on social relationships among residents (which I was part of). Deriving from the concept of collective memory, they created a film based on interviews about residents' memorable/valuable locations. Team 2 identified various structures and assets related to the water source in Ogawa. The co-design workshop involved residents providing stories and pictures about their town.
The studio course was also led by Aoi Yoshida san (CEO of AOI Landscape design) and Naoko Sakamaki san (CEO of landscape design offfice KakSak).
The workshop took place in NESTo, a co-working space created with the renovation of a historical stone warehouse ('Ishikura').

2022.12.15 [Omnibus lecture series @ ] 筑波大学地球規模課題学位プログラム（学士）にてオムニバス講義を担当しました．
筑波大学の留学生向けプログラムであるBachelor's Program in Global Issues（BPGI）にて、オムニバス講義を１コマ担当しました．初めての英語フル授業で緊張しましたが、学部１年生の学生さん達はとても積極的に授業に参加してくれました！駆け足でしたが考案したアイデアワークショップ（好きな都市の市長になり、100個のガーデンを作れるとしたら、どのような都市課題が解決できるか？）も面白い発想ばかりで、貴重な経験となりました．
2022.12.13 [mini presentation @ Itabashi Sogo Volunteer Center] いたばし総合ボランティアセンターにて話題提供を行いました．
解析研の先生のご紹介で、いたばし総合ボランティアセンターで行われたいたばし農福連携研究会の定例会に参加させていただき、自分の研究について話題提供の時間をいただきました．同取り組みのひとつに、廃校となった旧板橋第三小学校（一部をいたばし総合ボランティアセンターとして現在活用）の花壇を活用した菜園づくりがあり、季節の野菜などを丁寧に栽培されていました．菜園づくりは、高島平で昼は認知症の方々の居場所で夜は居酒屋となっている 「ゆずり葉」のメンバーが担っているとのことで、都市ならではの農園の活用が見られました．
2022.12.2 [Lunch Lecture Series @ Maryland Institute College of Art] メリーランド芸術大学建築デザイン科にて卒業後のキャリアに関する話題提供を行いました．
母校であるメリーランド芸術大学建築デザイン科のKatie O'Meara先生より依頼を受け、卒業後のキャリアについて共有するLunch Lectureを現役の学部生に向けて行いました．芸大から研究へ分野を変えた際の葛藤や不安、どのような課題に自分が取り組みたいと考えているかといったテーマについて話してみました．自分のルーツであるMICAとまたつながれて、とても嬉しい時間でした．
2022.11.7 [Conference @ Sitges & site visits @ Barcelona, Spain] スペイン・シッチェスにて国際会議Urban Transitions 2022に参加し、バルセロナ市のスーパーブロックを視察しました．
11月6日から12日まで、スペインのバルセロナ県に出張しました．7-9日の３日間は、スペインカタルーニャ州バルセロナ県の港町シッチェスにて、国際会議Urban Transitions 2022に参加しました．「健康」に寄与する都市の交通・緑地・計画のあり方について幅広い発表が行われました．解析研からは太陽光発電の立地傾向を博論テーマとする学生さんが口頭発表を行いました．今回は聴講のみでしたが、健康都市の最新動向を、第一人者の先生から直接知見を得ることができました．「健康」と一口にいっても、都市に居住する人々の健康のみならず、地球そのものの健康を考える「プラネタリー・ヘルス」も重要なキーワードでした．また近年研究が活発化しているNature-based Solutionsの研究成果も多くありました．次回は自分の成果も発表したいと思います！
また出張の初日と最終日には、バルセロナ市が主導する、先進的なウォーカブル空間創出事業である「スーパーブロック」を３か所視察しました．400m x 400mのブロックを3 x 3に並べたエリアをスーパーブロックとし、街区内の車の通行を抑止するよう都市住民に「お願い」し、大気汚染問題の解消、身体活動の促進、コミュニティ活動の強化を目指しています．視察した際、親子連れが多く集まっていました．貴重な出張の機会をいただき、費用を負担していただいた樋野公宏先生に心より御礼申し上げます！
2022.7.13 [Policy Paper & Presentation @ Asian Development Bank Institute] アジア開発機構のPaper Development Workshopに参加しました．
アジア開発機構(Asian Development Bank Institute)による「ポストコロナ社会のレジリエンスと成長に向けたまちづくり」に関するポリシーペーパーのワークショップ(Paper Development Workshop on Rethinking Cities for Resilience and Growth in the Post-COVID-19 World)に参加しました。自身の執筆原稿の発表および査読者からのコメントに基づいたディスカッションを行いました。コロナを受けて増加したテレワーク地方移住者の新たな暮らしと、遠郊外の自然資源を活用したレトロフィットは、どのように組み合わせることが可能か？つくば市の住宅開発や農園への視察をペースに執筆し、査読者のコメントを踏まえて8月に再提出しました。日本で語られるポストコロナの将来像は、インドのデリーといった、インフラや社会階層の違いが顕著な他のアジア大都市ではどの程度実現可能なのか。直接専門家から問われて改めて考える機会となりました。ポリシーペーパーをまとめた書籍のパブリケーションが楽しみです！
Presentation title: Retrofitting the outskirts of Asian megacities: workplace-making with nature
Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the rapid uptake of flexible work arrangements across nations. As a result, the outskirts of megacities are beginning to attract migrants from urban cores due to reasons such as for housing affordability, greater livable space, and more attractive natural amenities. How can the outskirts of Asian megacities be retrofitted to build a more livable environment suitable for post-COVID-19 work arrangements while mitigating potential environmental distress caused by the development? In this chapter, we first overview the current discussion on the recent out-migration pattern within the Japanese megacity region driven by a shift towards remote work and then explore ICT-supported emerging lifestyles in the Greater Tokyo Area, Japan. Secondly, by introducing two projects in Tsukuba City, the chapter explores the concept of workplace-making with nature, which may be a key to creating inclusive and resilient communities in the outskirts. Lastly, the chapter discusses how the outskirts of other Asian megacities can be retrofitted for the post-COVID-19 workstyle by considering policies that promote 1) connecting dispersed cities with greener modes of transportation, 2) identifying and restoring natural environments within megacity regions, and 3) developing management schemes for workplace-making with nature.
2022.6.17 現代日本研究センター(The UTokyo Center for Contemporary Japanese Studies)の若手研究フォーラムに登壇しました．
東京大学現代日本研究センター （The UTokyo Center for Contemporary Japanese Studies）が主催する若手研究フォーラム（Early-Career Scholar Forum）にて、博士研究の成果をもとに、英語で３０分のプレゼンテーションを行いました。当日は、博士論文の副査を務めていただいた白波瀬佐和子先生にモデレーターを担当いただき、発表後のQ＆Aでは貴重なコメントをいただくことができました。
Presentation title: “Workplace-making” for inclusion of social minorities in farm settings: findings from Canada and Japan
Abstract: In recent years, community gardens and farms are implemented in cities as means for promoting education, social interaction, and employment for diverse community members, including various social minorities. In Canada, immigrants have been playing key roles in the community garden movement. In Japan, there has been a nationwide movement called noufuku-renkei, a program which aims to promote work inclusion of persons with disabilities in the agricultural sector. What characterizes these programs is that the social minorities, who are often stigmatized as “recipients” of welfare in the society, are presented as significant members who have capabilities to take active roles by demonstrating their aptitudes and skills needed to support agricultural production and businesses. By taking community-based agricultural organizations in Canada and Japan, this presentation explores key management characteristics of agricultural activities that promote social minorities’ “role quest” and discusses implications for realizing an inclusive society through the lens of “workplace-making.”

2022.4.26 日本都市計画学会に全国アンケート調査に関する査読論文が掲載されました．
環境デザイン研究室にて行った研究論文「インクルーシブな都市・社会形成の観点から見た農福活動団体の障がい者雇用に係る特徴」が、日本都市計画学会一般論文集に掲載されました！
３つのデータベースを用いて全国の農福連携団体を抽出し、郵送・オンラインのアンケート調査を実施しました。横張真教授、坂本慧介助教、山崎嵩拓助教、そして環境デザイン研究室の皆様には、論文の執筆にあたり多くのご尽力をいただきました。
次のステップとして、障がいのある人もない人も活躍できる農的活動に向けて、農福連携団体が活用している空間の特性、そして農・食を起点とした地域との連携について研究を進めていきたいと思います！
抄録：あらゆる人々が個性を発揮できるインクルーシブな社会の形成に向けて、本研究は、障がい者が従事する農福連携事業に着目し、全国の農福活動団体を、主目的が「福祉」にあるか「農業」にあるかの二者に分類した上で、障がい者雇用において能力・適性を重視する団体の特徴を分析した。その結果、「福祉」を主目的とする団体の方が、障がい者の能力・適性を重視する傾向が強く、各団体が行う農的活動の種類によっても、重視の度合いは異なった。生産・加工・販売といった活動の多様性を内包する農的活動を障がい者の個性発揮の好機として位置づけ、インクルーシブな社会形成につなげるためには、「個々の能力・適性の評価」を重視する福祉サイドのアプローチを農サイドにも波及させることが重要であろう。

2022.4.1 東京大学大学院 住宅・都市解析研究室（浅見・貞広研） 助教に着任しました．
4月より、東京大学大学院工学系研究科都市工学専攻 住宅・都市解析研究室（浅見・貞広研）の助教に着任しました。4月から新たに始動した同専攻による社会連携講座「サステナブルなまちの創生」に参加し、サステナブルなまちのあり方についての共同研究に関わります。周りの方々に支えられながら、精一杯頑張る所存です！
2022.3.24 東京大学大学院都市工学専攻にて博士課程（工学）を修了・賞を受賞しました．
この春、無事に東京大学大学院工学系研究科都市工学専攻にて博士号（工学）を取得し、修了式を迎えることができました。
また今回大変嬉しいことに、都市工学専攻より優秀博士研究賞、工学系研究科長賞をいただくことができました！
2018年の秋に柏キャンパスのGPSS-GLIから本郷キャンパスの都市工に進学してから３年半、家族や周りの皆様のサポートをいただき、博士研究に打ち込むことができました。
博士研究はうまくいかないとき、大変なときも多くありましたが、それを上回る大きな喜びと学びを得ることができました。
環境デザイン研究室にはアメリカから帰国後、５年半大変お世話になりました。指導教員をはじめとした多くの先生方、大学の職員の皆様、そして先輩、同期、後輩の学生の皆様に本当にいつもあたたかく支えていただき、ありがとうございました。研究室で過ごした日々の思い出は自分の宝物です。
そして研究調査にあたり多大なるサポートをいただきました国内外の活動団体の皆様にも、心から感謝申し上げます。農をめぐる現場に駆け出しのリサーチャーとして関わらせていただいた経験を、今後も活かしていきたいです。
I had my final defense for my ph.d dissertation titled "A study on management of agricultural activities toward inclusion of social minorities" last February, and finally got my degree at the Department of Urban Engineering, the University of Tokyo!
In the fall of 2018, I moved from GPSS-GLI in Kashiwa campus to Urban Eng. in Hongo to start my ph.d journey. For 3.5 years since then, I was fortunate to fully invest my life on what I am passionate about (my research). Without support from my family and peers, I would not have been able to complete my goal...!
In addition, I received the Excellent Doctoral Research Award and the Dean of the School of Engineering Award from the Department of Urban Engineering!
The journey was truly challenging, but I was very fortunate to have so many supportive people in and out of the lab who helped me get through it. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the senseis, labmates, organizations, and my family for all their great support!!
2020.10.8 国際誌Sustainabilityにカナダ・トロント市を対象とした査読論文が掲載されました．
環境デザイン研究室にて行った研究論文"Immigrants’ 'Role Shift' for Sustainable Urban Communities: A Case Study of Toronto’s Multiethnic Community Farm"が、国際誌Sustainability に掲載されました！
カナダ・トロント市の多民族地区において運営されているコミュニティ・ファームを対象に、運営に関わる移民参加者の「役割の遷移（Role shift）」をライフ・ストーリー・インタビュー法を用いて分析しました。分析の結果、農的活動を通じて、移民は支援を受ける単なる「受け手」に留まることなく、地域の社会課題に取り組み、他者を支援する「促進者」として役割を遷移させていたことが明らかになり、その促進のためのマネジメント要素を考察しました。横張真教授、寺田徹講師、そして環境デザイン研究室の皆様には、論文の執筆にあたり多くのご尽力をいただきました。
Abstract: As the ongoing health crisis has recently revealed, disparities and social exclusions experienced by immigrants in cities are now critical urban issues that can no longer be overlooked in the process of building sustainable urban communities. However, within the current practices aiming for social inclusion of immigrants, there has been an underlying assumption that immigrants are permanent “recipients” of their host society’s support, rather than potential “hosts” with abilities to support others in their society in the long-term. To question that assumption, this paper aims to identify immigrants’ degree of involvement by taking a multiethnic community farm in Toronto, Canada, as a case study to discuss the scope of the long-term inclusion of immigrants. Conducting a set of 15 life story interviews with participants of the Black Creek Community Farm (BCCF), the study identified what roles immigrants played within the group using the longitudinal analysis of individuals’ role-taking processes between 2010–2018. The paper identified three types of roles—recipient, assistant, and facilitator—taken by the participants during their involvement. The timeline of individual role types by year showed that more than half of the immigrants at the BCCF underwent a “role shift” to take an assistant and facilitator role that required higher engagement. The findings suggest immigrants’ orientations towards the BCCF have shifted from being the ones to be included to the ones including others in the local community over time, which confirms our hypothesis.
